RV Travel - Kiss A Camel

by Shirley Mendonca

The radio was playing Rock and Roll oldies, the A/C was keeping us nice and cool, and I had a nice drink in my hand as we arrived in Quartzsite. Arizona.

I took one look around and said, "It's nothing but a big flea market."

My husband smiled and replied. "I thought you would like it since you love garage sales." Laughing as he shook his head.

The following day we were up early and heading for Camp Verde where we had plans to go on a African Safari.

The tour bus had open windows where the animals would come up to the bus for treats. It was amazing. There were all types of animals just roaming around the area.

At one point a giraffe stuck it's head in the doorway so the tour guide could give him a treat.

As we came around a bend in the road the tour guide gave everyone on the bus a hand full of diced carrots and explained for the next animal there would be three ways we could feed it. "You can place the carrot between your thumb and index finger, place it in the palm of your hand, or place it between your teeth and let the animal, which is a Camel by the way, take it from you."

I looked at my husband, gave him a big smile."I'm going to place the carrot in my mouth."

"You're crazy."

The crowd on the tour bus started cheering and chanting, " Do IT, Do IT."

So I very carefully got out of my seat, went to the other side of the tour bus where the Camel had its head stuck out of a small hole in the fence. I leaned forward and the next thing I remember was the feel of soft fur and whiskers that tickled. The carrot was gone.

Cameras were flashing, people were laughing and yelling out, "Good for you."

What an awesome experience.

Shirley, Thank you so much for your story - wish I could have seen it. What an experience!
Best regards,
